Face to Face Learning at School Should not be Held in 2021

Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) Nadiem Makarim announced that schools are allowed to continue teaching and learning activities in January 2021 or in the even semester of the 2020-2021 school year. Face-to-face learning is the most effective but unavoidable way of learning in the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic. If face-to-face learning is carried out, it is feared that it will not work well in its implementation. Why? There are several main reasons for this.

Firstly, if in 2021 it is decided to start face-to-face learning this will not be very effective. Seeing the current situation where the spike in the Covid-19 number continues to rise and the spread of the virus is increasingly widespread. It is feared that face-to-face learning in 2021 will not work well considering the current conditions are not really good. If face-to-face learning continues, it is feared that it will further expand the chain of spreading Covid-19.

Secondly, the lack of public awareness of the dangers of Covid-19. This is compounded by ignoring health protocols, exacerbating the spread of the covid-19 chain. Children tend to be lazy to wear masks and wash their hands after doing various activities.

thus, the government's decision to implement face-to-face learning policies in 2021 is less effective because currently the rate of spike in the covid number is still high. Currently, the positive rate or the rate of transmission of Covid-19 is above 10%. Meanwhile, WHO suggests loosening up activities in a country if the positive rate is below 5%. This high positive rate was supported by the students' less caring attitude towards health protocols. If they often ignore health protocols, it will be possible to expand the chain of transmission of Covid 19. Therefore the face-to-face learning policy 2021 is still not effective if implemented.
